It was a pleasant stay at a traditional style Ryokan. Staff was very friendly and the location is excellent. The building is very old and charming but the ammenities are a bit dated and worn; not a deterrent just a heads up. Had a great night sleep and an excellent breakfast!!!

Very nice and beautiful ryokan, with a strong atsmosphere. The women bath was really beautiful and a real onsen. Location is very good near the temple (main attraction of Nagano), and not far from the JR Station. We liked the town, not very much to see except the temple but the main street gave us "good vibes". I recommand the ryokan.

This place is absolutely mind-blowing! The rooms are super cozy and spacious, and the hosts are the friendliest people ever. The location is perfect, right by Zenkoji Temple. Don't miss the jaw-dropping Japanese breakfast! The interior and atmosphere are so nostalgic and relaxing, it's like stepping back in time. And the onsen? Fabulous! Plus, the owners go above and beyond to make your stay unforgettable. Hands down one of the best places I've ever stayed!

a very personal experience - the owners were genuine people (little english, but able to communicate enough to get by) and wanted to see you happy with your stay. brought tea and sweets to room after check-in. bath facility was hot and very relaxing. totally traditional experience (be prepared for lots of stairs) - with an amazing set-up. close (walking) to Zenko-ji and many local shops and restaurants. a bus stop is just outside door (100 Yen from Nagano Station).
nothing - if you want a true Japanese experience, this is a must stay (regardless if backpacker, family, etc).

I loved the Ryokan, very authentic Japanese accommodation. The family who ran it were very friendly and helpful and very hospitable. It was great value for money and close to Nagano central and also the temple so an easy enough walk or bus trip everywhere. A nice quiet place, only downside is shared facilities but we never noticed. Would definitely recommend it to my friends and would definitely stay again.
Only downside for some might be shared facilities but the Ryokan doesn't take too many guests so you don't really notice it, we had the bathrooms and toilets all to ourselves mostly.
